To buying cheap old campers that need some work.

Kinja'd!!!

Its a bigly pop up from 1997. It’s a little rough around the edges on the outside. The trunk leaked and it’s floor is rotten, but the rest of it is solid. The interior, the canvas, and the screens are nearly pristine. It has the Mrs. Shop Teacher seal of approval, which is mos t important. Paid $1,600. Given how quickly my offer was accepted, I could have gotten for less. Oh well! The next cheapest pop up camper with AC and a toilet is more than twice that price.

We're excited to have a family camper again.

How much does that weigh? I was thinking of something similar but don’t have a tow vehicle yet.

I just saw  that! Those are actually quite collectible. I don't have space for that kind of metal though!

That's a good question ... I'm not really sure. Probably somewhere around 3500 pounds. They can be a lot lighter, if you get a smaller one. My last one was probably more like 1500 pounds.

This isn’t a choice. The Algorithm demands C ontent.

Drrrrrr ... The only camera I own is a Pixel 1 I bought used off of Oppo last year, so unless you're planning to show up at my place with some actual camera gear, the algorithm is just going to have to live without my Shop Teacher fixes janky old campers you tube channel.

Nothing wrong with a Pixel camera. Plenty of Youtube content has been made with much worse.

Besides that, unless she’s tolerant to the point of verging on sainthood, I can’t imagine Mrs. Shop-T eacher would give them her seal of approval...

The only wheeled vehicle I ever bought new from a dealer lot was my ‘07 Coleman Sedona trailer. I made a truss that straddles the front towing frame and supports the bed. I call it the Boink Truss. I’ve towed that thing from the Pacific to the Atlantic and back twice.

That looks identical to our family camper back in the late 90s (granted, they all looked alike soooooo....)

Best art was our tow vehicle was the family minivan - the dustbuster supreme!

Could I get a picture of the Bo ink T russ? Because that’s a great idea.

I was having such a hard time finding a cheap one, in decent shape, with all the features we wanted, that I was starting to consider buying a new one. This thing at $1600 makes sense. All the others I was seeing in the $3500-5000 range weren't much better than this one. At that point, buying a new one and being the one to take care of it from new, may have been the way to go. I'm glad I got this cheap one instead.

Yeah, they really do all look alike.

My hatred of the dust buster vans knows no bounds though. I like the way they look, but ... Well, let's just say my experiences with them did not go well.

Boink Truss is indispensable, particularly for a lardass like myself and, well, for boinking...

The trailer is in storage so I'll dig around in my photos to see if it's visible and if nothing else, I'll sketch it for you.

My parents just bought another camper, the old one leaked and my mom gets sick from the mold every time she sleeps in it. They don’t know what to do with the old one yet.

We are setting it up next weekend.

Thanks! I don’t think there will be any boinking in the camper anytime soon, but I am definitely a lardass :)

If the old one isn’t fixable, the best use I’ve found for old campers  to part out the usable stuff, throw away/scrap the body (if it’s aluminum), and use the frame to build a utility trailer.  It’s a LOT of work though.

I’ll sketch it for you. I did a bunch of little mods to my trailer that made a yuuuge difference.

There is a lot of good stuff in it. I’ll even see about getting it on Craigslist for $2000 before my dad just unloads it for $500-1000.
